This 1966 Volkswagen Beetle convertible is said to have been acquired by the current owner in 2022 from the second owner in California who had owned the car since 1975. Finished in Ruby Red over white vinyl upholstery, the car is powered by a 1.3-liter flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes a tan soft top, 15″ steel wheels with hubcaps, chrome bumpers and trim, crank windows, and a Sapphire radio. Service during current ownership is said to have included replacing the brake master cylinder and suspension components. This Beetle convertible is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with service records, a mileage log, 1975 purchase documents, a boot cover, black California license plates, manufacturer’s literature, and a clean California title.
The car is finished in Ruby Red and features a replacement tan soft top. Additional details include chrome bumpers and trim, rubber-topped running boards, dual side mirrors, rear fender guards, and dual exhaust outlets. The seller notes fading paint on the hood, and wear can be seen on the top of the doors. Photos of paint meter readings are displayed in the photo gallery below.
Steel 15″ wheels wear VW-branded chrome hubcaps and 165-series Michelin XZX whitewall tires that are said to have been mounted under current ownership. A spare tire is stored in the front trunk. Braking is handled by drums stationed at all four corners. Work during current ownership is said to have included replacing the front ball joints, tie rods, and dampers along with rebuilding front brake components.
The cabin features a rear bench upholstered in white vinyl and front buckets that wear white slipcovers. Equipment includes a body-color dashboard, lap belts, crank windows, door pockets, quarter vent windows, black rubber floor mats, a locking glove box, and a Sapphire radio. The headliner is sagging.
A two-spoke steering wheel with a chrome horn ring and a Wolfsburg crest frames a 90-mph speedometer and a fuel gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 57k miles, of which approximately 1k were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. A purchase document from 1975 listing the mileage at 96k is included in the gallery.
The air-cooled 1.3-liter flat-four features a single carburetor and was overhauled in 1980.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. Additional underside photos can be seen in the gallery.
Manufacturer’s literature, service records, purchase documents, black California license plates, and a boot cover are included in the sale.
