The 356B Super 90 Reutter Coupe presented here is an outstanding matching numbers example that features a complete restoration (1996). Finished in an attractive Slate Gray, the Porsche is complemented by a black leather interior, including new carpets and a new headliner. The comprehensive restoration work included a complete strip of all exterior and interior paint from the factory Light Ivory to Slate Gray. All brightwork was refinished, including freshly refinished chrome window frames.

The engine was completely overhauled by marque specialist (see build sheet & dyno results in the picture) Steve Schmidt of “Honest Engine” (now Rennwagen Motor Company) in 1996, in Fountain Valley, CA. This car is powered by the desirable Super 90 engine with 90 brake horsepower, which, according to contemporary road tests, was an engine capable of top speeds approaching 125 mph. The car has travelled less than 10K miles since a full and comprehensive restoration completed in the late 90’s.

The 356B is mechanically powered by the numbers matching 1600cc flat-four engine which produces 90 hp. It runs phenomenally well when paired with its matching manual 4-speed 741 transmission and stock braking configuration.

Offered complete with a Certificate of Authenticity issued by Porsche AG, Kardex, Dyno Report and extensive service records. This very fine restored 1963 356B is certainly a superb and thrilling example, benefitting from the desirable Super 90 engine. This 356 B was a European-delivered car that appears to have come to California in 1967 as it wears its original California “Black Plates” and the 1971 Registration from the second owner shows *1967 as the original CA registered year. We do not have history from the first owner, only the word of the second owner who purchased sometime in 1967 in Southern CA. The car was purchased by the 3rd and current owner in 1992. To our knowledge, other than being delivered in Europe, the car has always continuously resided in Southern CA. The original speedometer is in kilometers.

This vehicle has been shown at local Southern CA venues and impresses wherever it goes. The owner is a long-time member of the 356 Club here in Sou

thern CA. In 2008 the car was presented at the 356 Club Concours in Dana Point, CA where it finished in 3rd Place in the Street Division.

BODY & PAINT

The body, paint, chrome, trim and rubber are all like new. The body is extremely straight and appears to have had very little body work required to bring it back to its original glory. Take a look at the shut lines and you will see just what I am referring to. The paint is smooth and orange peel free with no dings, scratches or abrasions. I would have to rate the paint and body at a 9 out of 10. Included in the picture gallery are pictures of the body being stripped and and in primer. Chrome is a 9.6 out of 10.

Extensive restoration pictures of the body will show the comprehensive windows out restoration and color change. The body was extremely straight and rust free. There is not one speck of original white paint anywhere on the body or even inside the door frames with the door panels off… everything was repainted as if the car had been painted Gray at the factory.

INTERIOR

The Interior was completely restored (minus the dashboard which is original) by Auto’s International in San Diego, CA and has a wonderful original look to it. The leather seat material looks identical to the original style and texture. German Square Weave Carpet was applied to the floors and is a nice contrast with the Slate Gray exterior. The seats were completely rebuilt with all new foam and all side metal pieces rechromed. The Tachometer was recently restored by Palo Alto Speedometer. I would rate the interior a 9.2 out of 10. The only flaw being the left corner of the original dashboard is tattered (see picture).

The Undercarriage was completely original and unmolested. Most of the factory installed undercoating was still in place and we took pictures to showcase just how nice it was. The owner decided to freshen up the undercarriage and recently had it cleaned and resprayed. The longitudinals, floor pans and battery box are in perfect unmolested condition.

Today, this 356B is presented in true #2 condition, showing very little use since restoration, with less than 10K miles logged.

The car is exceptionally well-sorted mechanically. This Porsche drives as good as it looks, and it is ready to transport its next possessor back to the mid-1960s, when this car was delivered to its doubtlessly delighted first owner. It drives straight down the road and brakes with authority.

If you are looking for a fine example of 356, sorted mechanically and show worthy inside and out, then this may just be the car for you. I would not hesitate to jump in this 356 and take a cross-country trip tomorrow.

Just as a matter of reference, I have been judging cars at all types of show levels for over 25 years and have extensive experience in restoration of all kinds of cars. I personally own a Porsche 356C and a 356B Roadster. I am extremely picky and probably grade more on the lower side when evaluating vehicles. I would consider a 10 on my scale to be a Concour Quality vehicle, just so you have a reference. This car is a VERY high quality motorcar but is not Concours. This would be a very easy car to take to that level if a new buyer was so inclined.

Please call if you are local and want to see and experience this little gem. We welcome inspection from reputable and knowledgeable inspectors or experts.

I am selling this car for the current owner who is a good friend and his number is available as well. Should you have further questions please feel free to contact me.
